Brigadier General Elkanah Braken Greer was born in Paris, Tenn., on Oct. 13, 1825. He entered the Confederate army in May 1861 and eventually became chief of the Bureau of Conscription for the Trans-Mississippi Dept. of the Confederate States of America.
